News in the tech world – Notch Pie!

Smartphones with camera cut-outs in the display do not seem to be disappearing so quickly. People are divided on this design. There are those who find it attractive while others are of the opposite opinion. But a member of the XDA Developers Forum, taking an unusual approach, decided to make smartphone screen cuts a key component of his new battery indicator application for Android phones.

The app is called Notch Pie, and it adds a semicircle to the edge of the display cut-out that shows the battery level of the smartphone.

The first time you use the app, you will be asked to adjust the position of the battery indicator so that it covers the edges of your device’s display. XDA Developers notes that it may take some time to configure correctly, but once you have completed the installation process, you will not need to repeat it again. Notch Pie is currently in beta and, as noted, “some things may not work as intended.”

Notch Pie is specifically designed for smartphones with “water drop” or “teardrop” screen cutouts, but is not suitable for smartphones with a large iPhone X-style niche that takes up more space at the top of the display.

There is no doubt that if smartphones with such cut-outs remain on the market, other creative ways of exploiting the characteristics of these displays will be developed.
